How Heat Pump Systems Work
Heat pumps are a lot like central air conditioning systems. They feature air ducts for distributing conditioned air throughout the house (unless you opt for a ductless mini-split), an outdoor unit, and a central indoor unit (again, unless you choose a ductless system). Refrigerant is evaporated in the indoor coil, removing heat from the air in the house. The cooled air is then recirculated, as the warmed refrigerant is condensed outdoors in order to release heat.
The major difference is that a heat pump is capable of reversing its refrigerant cycle. The reversing valve allows it to switch directions, with the coils swapping functions. In heating mode, the system evaporates refrigerant outdoors. This draws heat out of the air outside. The refrigerant is compressed, boosting thermal energy, then condensed indoors, releasing that heat to warm the interior space. No new heat is generated, resulting in incredible heating efficiency.
Consider a Hybrid Heat Dual Fuel System
A hybrid heat system is a great call for homeowners looking to balance excellent heating efficiency with impeccable reliability. Our winters can get quite cold, as you know, and that may be a problem at times with a heat pump. While it doesn’t get frigid enough to totally overwhelm a heat pump, very cold temperatures may cause a drop in system efficiency.
A dual fuel heat pump system pairs the heat pump with a traditional gas furnace. The system will automatically switch over to the gas furnace when that is the more efficient heating option. Once the heat pump is able to handle the job with its trademark efficiency once more, the system switches back on its own. A hybrid heat dual fuel system in Chesterfield, MO, is a great option, especially when you let us install and service yours!
